I trust that you and yours are safe as we head for the autumn of this year. I send my best wishes to those of you who have school age children and are going through the rigors of “back to school” rituals such as school shopping and car pool scheduling. So, please don’t go crazy, just take a few deep breaths and realize, “this too shall pass”!
However, for those of us who have finalized our formal education, it is obvious that a truly sound education is not just about passing tests. It is about the acquisition of information that will enhance our lives, both personally and professionally. I did not begin to realize the need for a broad understanding of information until I was struck by lightning on September 17, 1975. Prior to that day, I had no interest in an understanding of anything that had to do with God, Spirit, death or the hereafter. As an ex-Marine, all that ever truly interested me was how to survive in a variety of places and climates around the world. I had learned how to hit hard, destroy the target and get the hell out! But on that fateful day in 1975, I witnessed the importance of knowing all you can regarding God, Spirit, life, death and the hereafter! In fact, without a solid foundation of understanding in these subjects, how and why you educate yourself becomes a moot point. A truly meaningful education will undoubtedly offer you a very clear understanding of who you are and why you are here.
So, in the course of acquiring a good education, Dannion-style, I believe there are three keys: knowledge, wisdom and patience. Knowledge is that which is gained through instruction and enlightenment. Of course, this is the most important part of education. The daily lessons inculcated into our children act to build the sturdy framework that secures the mental disciplines in their pursuit of happiness through the fulfillment of their destiny. What I fail to see being offered in the educational system today is the search for the meaning of life and their relationship to Spirit. Our children are not being given the tools to discover their divine purpose. Our formal educations help us to acquire skills necessary to plan our careers and to secure well-paid jobs; however, our knowledge of ourselves as spiritual beings is left lacking. Therefore, it is within the home that our children must be taught the need to embrace these spiritual principles. It is up to us, as parents, to make them aware of their spiritual identity.
The second key to the Dannion-style education is wisdom. Wisdom is most often the natural by-product of knowledge. Wisdom: the power of judging rightly and following a solid course of action based on knowledge, experience and understanding. Although I realize that wisdom cannot be taught, it can be nurtured and encouraged through loving and learned example. Through experience after experience in life, wisdom is gradually gained and incorporated into every thought and action. Discernment is the cornerstone of wisdom and patience is its consequence. Patience: the act of calmly or contentedly waiting for something due or hoped for.
These three key ingredients of a solid education builds a foundation of a righteous, spiritual, compassionate human being who will make the world a better place for all of us to live. I think I could have left all the words out of this article, if I had just shown you this picture first: The Ultimate Example of Knowledge, Wisdom and Patience.
With love and purpose, Dannion
