Notes from the Publisher’s Desk:

Spring greetings and welcome to the May edition of Kinetics Magazine! We are very excited about this month’s theme: Motherhood and our Mother Earth. As an extremely proud mother of six (gorgeous) children, I always look forward to Mother’s Day. And, no, it’s not just because of the fabulous gifts I receive annually, but rather as an opportunity to bask in the loving relationships I’ve cultivated with each of my children, through the years.

My firstborn goddess, Elizabeth, possesses a most exciting entrepreneurial spirit that keeps me in high gear whenever we’re together. Her drive is as compelling as her mischievous laughter. Her beauty and brilliance are breathtaking (of course, she looks just like her mother). From the very day she was born, Elizabeth has been a thrill to behold.

Next in line is Alixandra, a naturalist who’s earned several degrees and certificates in horticulture. Alix loves nothing better than spending the day planting, weeding and talking to the plants, birds and garden insects. She is truly an Earth Steward, a guardian of our Sacred Mother Earth (see her article in this issue).

Evan is my only son. Smack dab in the middle of a gaggle of five giggling girls, Evan found his escape in sports paradise. As a youngster, he discovered a deep love and great skill in soccer. However, shortly thereafter, the all American pastime, baseball, commanded centered stage in his life. Well, before long, and in spite of my pleas to the contrary, Evan decided to play football in high school. Mothers often do know best, and his football career was very short-lived due to a shoulder injury he sustained early in the first season! Today he’s still enjoying his sports, but in a most luxurious fashion – he plays golf!

This fall, my daughter, Alysia, entered the Master’s Program at UNLV. She’s working towards her MPA and may take an internship with a one of our representatives in Washington D.C. this fall. She’s as sharp and impetuous as they come; never a dull moment with her in the house. Alysia has the spark and compassion to easily become a woman in politics who leads our country fearlessly into the New Golden Age.

Angelica is almost nineteen, and of course, knows more than anyone else! No, I take that back, she knows more than all of us combined! At nineteen, she’s finishing up her sophomore year of college. She’s not sure where she wants to focus her talents and energies, though. One day she’d like to be a rock star and the next day she like to fly off to Darfur to feed the children and bring a few home with her. Whatever she ultimately decides to do with her life, I have no doubt, the entire planet will be blessed (and inspired) in the process.

The last of my litter is Adriana, my dreamy-eyed fairy princess. Adriana has always been precocious and pure, filled with divine curiosity and poetry. At fifteen, she stands taller than all her sisters, and loves it! She’s extremely empathetic and dramatic. So, I’m encouraging her to take acting lessons in hopes that with her natural talent she’ll be able to support me in grand style in my old age! Only kidding…it doesn’t have to be grand style.

As I look back over the years I spent changing diapers, putting a cool cloth on a feverish brow and sitting in the scorching hot sun at soccer games, I nearly explode with joy and pride. There is nothing else I could have done with my life that would have been as fulfilling, challenging and inspiring. I loved my children deeply, and cared for them with serious gusto as a stay at home Mom. Being a mother was my first goal in life. I told my mother when I was twelve that I wanted twelve children, but as the years passed I realized I’d be content with half that many. Now, I’m waiting for grandchildren to arrive, but my kids aren’t cooperating. If I nag incessantly, maybe they’ll take pity on me before I’m too old! But even if they don’t, I’ve made sure that I saturated my life and memories with picnics in the front yard, and lullabies in the rocking chair. I have no regrets over the choices I made and I’ve been abundantly blessed by the oh, so many years I spent mothering my children.

Thank you, Goddess and Happy Mother’s Day to All!
