FREQUENCIES OF HEALING
Subject: Motherhood and Rebirth |
The theme of this issue of Kinetics is “Motherhood and Rebirth”. Since our focus is on the use of sound as a healing modality and how this knowledge of sound may assist our lives, we’d like to apply it now to motherhood and rebirth. In reality, there are so many aspects of the healing power of sound with regard to this topic that we hardly know where to begin. First, of course, there is the most obvious role of sound in the actual birthing process. Any woman who has ever had a child—especially one in the situation of natural childbirth will know the power of their own self-created sounds in terms of assisting the process. Sighing, moaning and groaning are all natural self-created sounds that are utilized to help alleviate pain during childbirth. These sounds are aspects of what is called “toning”—the use of the voice as an instrument for release of pain and energetic blockages. Making such sounds serves many purposes, i.e., it can help distract the mind from the suffering of the body; it can cause the release of endorphins—those natural opiates of the body that are useful for numbing pain; it can actually release and loosen tightened areas of the body—assisting the opening in the areas of the womb. We mention toning first and foremost simply because there is such a major connection between these self-created sounds and their presence in the process of childbirth. In later columns, we will talk more about similar uses of toning for healing, but for now, acknowledgement of the power of self-created sound during childbirth is important. Next, of course is the use of sound for the neo-natal infant. The sounds of the infants tell us their needs, whether it’s hunger or what not. At the same time, our sounds can be effective in soothing and calming these tiny, precious beings. Our sounds—especially the calming power of lullabies—can cause a crying and disharmonious infant to be at rest and at peace. We’ve lately encountered much questioning about whether there is an actual frequency of love. We say, it is our beliefs that if you ever want to know this frequency just listen to the voice of a mother as she sings to her new born, and you will undeniably hear the sound of love. Her voice is encoded with the frequency of love! It may be a lullaby from her past that was sung to her as a child, or something that intuitively comes through her for the benefit of her own offspring. Regardless, this sound is the sound of love. It matters not if the voice of the singer is in tune or in key, or if she is singing the right notes or the right harmony. The recipient of these sounds doesn’t care if Mother is a great diva or can carry a tune in a bucket—all that matters is the energy of love that is encoded upon these sounds. Aha! And there you have it…the “frequency of love”. Another aspect of sound that is related to Motherhood and to birth and re-birth is simply the listening of different sounds and recordings that can be used to soothe and assist both the birthing process and the neo-natal process. Years ago, Jonathan was guided to create a recording “Dolphin Dreams” for this purpose. It was the first commercial recording available that featured the actual sounds of dolphins. (Included in this recording are also the sounds of ocean, heart beat, choral voices and even quartz crystals). This recording was created when dolphin assisted water births were frequently occurring. Jonathan was guided to create a recording that featured the “sonic energy” of a dolphin assisted water birth so that those people who wanted to have this experience, but were unable to relocate themselves to the oceans or be with the dolphins physically, would be able to play “Dolphin Dreams” and feel the “morphic” field—the energy field—of such a birth. Created more than 20 years ago, “Dolphin Dreams” continues to be used by people during the birthing process and afterwards. It’s a wonderful experience for both the parents and their offspring. (And, we acknowledge that any person can, of course, use it at any time—we often play it when either of us gets stressed out and needs some soothing and relaxing energy, or if we can’t sleep). “Dolphin Dreams” also seems to have the ability of helping us tap into the energy of the “Great Mother” that many perceive of as being embodied by the ocean, her creatures and all of life. There are many other ways that sound can be used to tune into the Great Mother. One sonic approach is by chanting a mantra to “Tara”, the Tibetan Bodhisattva of Compassion. Tara is said to be the Mother of all Buddha’s. She is the equivalent of the Virgin Mother in the Christian tradition, and the Cosmic Mother in the Native American tradition, as well as the Earth Goddess in shamanic and pagan traditions. In the Hindu tradition, Tara is said to be the embodiment of the “Om”, the primordial sound from which all other sounds emerge. By chanting Tata’s mantra, “Om Tara Tu Tare Ture Svaha”, anyone, whether male or female, can begin to resonate with the energy form of this aspect of the Divine Mother. One of our favorite recordings is “Trance Tara”, a CD that Jonathan created as an offering to invoke this Divine Mother of Compassion. The music from this CD has been utilized in many films on the subject of the Divine and Sacred feminine. The Divine Mother can be found in every religion and spiritual path. Since we are all children of the Divine, resonating to the energy of the Divine Mother can be an extraordinary experience in embracing the Divine Feminine in all of us. In conclusion we’d like to suggest that sound itself could be considered the ultimate creator, and therefore, the act of creating sound would be the ultimate form of motherhood and birth. In most of the creational myths from throughout this planet we find that life, the universe, and everything are brought into being solely through the power of sound—“In the beginning was the Word”. In some traditions, the creator being is masculine, “And the Lord said: Let there be Light” (sound creating Light). In other traditions, the creator being is feminine, such as in the Hopi Tradition, the Spider Woman sings the song of creation over the inanimate forms on the earth and brings them to life. It matters little what gender they are, for what they have in common is the use of sound to create life. As we experience the re-birth of life at this time of year, it’s awe inspiring to tune into of the sounds of nature—of the animals, birds, insects and other beings. Listen to their callings to each other and the planet. If you listen closely you can hear that all their sounds are sounds of the Divine—singing praises to the supreme creator of all that is. It is a marvelous symphony in the making!
